I choose my equipment on several criteria, topmost is completely practical – can it do the job?
Sometime there are several solutions and choice comes down to price, quality, speed, resilience.
For critical components I choose redundancy – having more than one high speed PC, monitor, calibrator etc. When working for clients I cannot afford a delay doing the work required.

If your budget is tight then get along with what you have the best you can but always purchase the one essential item – a good quality monitor calibrator.
